Industrial Fabrics
Strength contributions of fabrics combined with ease of fabrication of composites has resulted in the acceptance of composites in many industries. Many aerospace/aircraft components, ranging from radome, wing-to-fuselage fairings and wing flaps on exteriors to entire cabin and cargo hold interior sidewalls, are made of fiber glass fabric reinforced thermosetting resin composites, where high strength, low weight and part reliability are necessary design criteria.
Fiber glass fabrics are coated with extensive applications in recreational consumer products, such as fishing rods, golf club shafts, vaulting poles, skies, bows and arrows, protective helmets, hockey sticks and antennas, among others. These take advantage of fiber glass fabric's contribution to strong lightweight flexible products.
The uses of fiber glass fabrics in the manufacture of high strength, corrosion resistant pipes has the advantage that large sections of pipes can be quickly made compared to other pipe manufacturing processes.
Woven fiber glass products continue to find widespread applications in both the marine and tooling industries.
